Lakshmi Ali lives with her mom in their two bedroomed apartment and leads a busy but adventurous life. At school she's one of the top students, has her own small clique of friends and has unintentionally made the most popular girl at school her enemy. To make it worse they both have a crush on the same hot teacher, Mr. James Bentley.

When her Mom's job security becomes unstable Lakshmi decides to help her Mom through the school's work placement program and approaches her class teacher Mr. Bentley for help with that. Through this opportunity she discovers what she's capable of, who she can trust and how important family is.

Through her inter-action with Mother Frost she discovers that magic is real and that it can change lives. Sometimes those changes are good but sometimes those changes can be sinister and Lakshmi will see both the good and the bad side of magic.
