Netizen: You can never go home....

Derek Tabor

Netizens are the permanent inhabitants of the net, no longer possessing a body in real life. IRL for those in the know. The AI systems that run the net operate on the same rules as robotics. The primary rule is to protect the people who are netizens from any harm. To not allow any system to cause harm to any netizen through inaction. To protect itself so long as this doesn't interfere with the first two rules. The designers of the net worked hard to remove humanity's failings. Maybe too hard.

There is something wrong, different ideas and entities moving through the net with malicious intent. It is the efforts of a small group of people to find the answers and resolve the problems. Can they do this fast enough. Faster than an Artificially Conscious AI computer? They have an ace up their sleeve if they can get him to move on past his girlfriends death.

The Archivist may be the one person who can see beyond humanity's limitations. His ability to accomplish missions is undeniable. Charles Franklin knows how the Archivist works, and the terrible price paid for doing so. Leading the Cyber Counter Terrorist Division has made him the man he is, capable of pushing people far beyond what they thought they were capable of. He will need all that and more.

They just need to find Sarah, and nobody knows that yet.
