@MootQuestion @joshchafetz A better comparison would be the Iliad or Plutarch’s Parallel Lives. (Sima Qian’s Records of the Grand Historian, the basis for the biographical sketches in the first book, is in particular very similar to Plutarch)

Last night while reading some of Plutarch's 'Parallel Lives' (Cato the Elder) I found this lovely anecdote on the building of the Parthenon & the one hard-working mule who earned to be taken care of for life at public cost. https://t.co/adHacSYzKj

@jackmurphylive let him start with Plutarch's Parallel Lives. Short highly readable minibios of many great historical figures. Just pregame him with the fact that the history can be a bit dodgy at times.
