Pathways: A Journey Through the Innovative Images of Acclaimed Photographer G.B. Smith

The journey of G.B.Smith is one of a PATHWAY to re-discovery of an original passion, the title being a metaphor for his personal journey, which began almost fifty years ago as a teenager and has taken a somewhat circuitous route, coming back full circle to embrace his original photographic passions.

Born in the industrial heartland of England, and having grown up in Australia, G. B. Smith began his photographic passage in apprenticeship of traditional film techniques in both the darkroom and with large-plate cameras. The simplicity and deliberateness of his images today reflect the mindfulness of traditional approach, manifested in modern digital technology. Many of his studies gravitate toward man-made structures and forms and their interaction with the natural habitat.

G. B. Smith's early enthusiasm in photography, matched by his interest in emerging communication technologies and entrepreneurship, led him down a path of discovery and exploration in countries and cultures throughout the world.

In addition to his major endeavors in the world of photography, he is also a highly successful technology and business leader and one of the longest serving public company CEO's in the United States. A truly a global citizen, having lived on multiple continents and worked extensively in six, he now resides in suburban Maryland, USA, and combines extensive global travel with a rekindled passion for Fine Art photography.

In an effort to determine how best to create a physical and lasting showcase for his work, Smith endeavored to create this, his first book, and also utilize it as a vehicle to raise funds for Breast Cancer societies. That effort culminates with the publication of this book, where all of the author's proceeds will be donated to that cause.

Smith has received International recognition for his innovative imagery across a broad spectrum of eclectic subjects and genres. His photographs have been featured in a wide range of media, including many leading Fine Art and photography magazines. He has won multiple prestigious awards and accolades. Recent recognitions include three

consecutive Gold Medals in architecture, Fine Art and Nature categories at the Prix de la Photographie awards in Paris; Discovery photographer of the year; first prize in the International ND awards for Architecture; winner of multiple categories and "Best of the Best" award at the International Architecture Masterprize awards; and

multiple category winner for Fine Art and Architecture at both the New York and London Photography Awards.

Fitt, Lawton W.: - Lawton W. Fitt straddles the worlds of finance and art while also straddling the Atlantic

Ocean. A former partner of Goldman Sachs, she served for many years as the Vice Chair

of the board of the PS 1 Contemporary Art Center (now MoMA PS1) in New York. She

later was the chief executive of the Royal Academy of Arts in London. She is now enjoying

a second career as an independent director of leading companies in the US and the UK,

while continuing her active engagement with the visual and performing arts as a trustee

and passionate member of the audience. She resides in New York City and London, England.
