There have been several reports of sightings of large birds throughout modern-day history, including in the 21th century. One example is the Thunderbird, which is a legendary creature found in Native American mythology. The Harpy Eagle is an incredibly large and powerful bird of prey which is the result of millions of years of evolution, and understandably, it needs to be quantified for us to comprehend the physical similarities, of other prehistoric creatures, which bear similar habits and physical characteristics. The Titanis bird was a large, bird-like creature that was also said to have been seen in various parts of America in the early and mid-1900s.Another giant bird was the Gastornis, which lived in Europe, Asia, and North America during the Eocene and Oligocene epochs, around 56 to 34 million years ago. The Diatryma was slightly smaller than the Gastornis, but had a much larger and heavier beak. Perhaps the most well-known prehistoric bird is the extinct Elephant bird, which lived on the island of Madagascar until the 17th century. Argentavis is an extinct genus of bird that lived during the late Miocene epoch, approximately 6 to 8 million years ago. The Dromornis, which lived in Australia around 25 million years ago, weighed up to 1,000 pounds. Pterosaurs were actually not birds, but a separate group of reptiles that lived during the Mesozoic Era, alongside dinosaurs. Are there prehistoric birds in modern times?YES!
