Praise for this book

""Professor Koenig has the novel idea that we would do well to pray as Jesus taught, according to New Testament patterns and promises. He is not interested in biblical exegesis for its own sake or as part of historical inquiry. We brought moderate expectations to this book on such an overworked theme, and found ourselves surprised and delighted."" Christian Century ""This is an invigorating book. Professor Koenig is an academic author with the gift of writing with sensitivity and clarity, and who brings to the subject a sense of urgency and excitement. Whether he is talking of desolation and suffering or of celebration and rejoicing, the approach is always refreshing and practical. Here is a book that deserves to be widely read and enjoyed."" Esther De Waal, author of 'Living With Contradiction' ""Books about the New Testament tend to be either scholarly (with devotional use carefully screened out) or devotional (with no thought given to nourishing the mind). John Koenig combines the best of both worlds in this attractive, scholarly, and yet heartwarming treatment of New Testament prayer. It should make us think; it should also help us pray. Scholars, pastors, and 'ordinary Christians' will be deeply grateful for both."" Dr. N.T. Wright, Bishop of Durham
