Remnant: The Palimar Saga: Book One

K. R. Solberg

The shocking death of an immortal sends Collector Mavell, a master of shadows, on a quest for the killer. He believes a foreseer of Drawlen, a religious regime, knows something about the murder.

Jon Therman and his family of sunrock smugglers stumble into this manhunt. A former slave, he only desires to live unnoticed and to avoid the corruption of the world. But when a Drawlen immortal pursues his children, Jon retaliates.

Jon's daughter, Ella, attempts to rescue her friend from a ritual sacrifice. To do so, she must defy the commands of her fellow smugglers.

Shane zem'Arta, a Freelander spy, searches for his missing commander. His orders complicate Ella's effort to save her friend and Jon's mission to protect his family, leading these old friends on a perilous adventure. Smugglers, rogues, and lords clamber to stand against the Drawlen immortals. Can these fragile factions set aside their mistrust to survive a burgeoning war, or will they fall divided?

Remnant, the first of the four-volume epic fantasy The Palimar Saga, introduces a world of magic, trolls, shapeshifters, and guns. It tells the story of a family's struggle to survive a manhunt for a godkiller, one who has the power to vanquish immortals.

Remnant contends with the expansive world of Patrick Rothfuss. Readers of Jenn Lyon's A Chorus of Dragons and John Gwynne's The Bloodsworn Trilogy will find this an irresistible read.

She received her Bachelor of Arts in professional writing from Metropolitan State University in 2007. She lives with her husband and two children in Wisconsin. She loves literature, camping, and being an introvert. She is not a fan of cheese curds unless they are deep fried.Kirsten (Kee-rs-ten) is daughter to Carol Ruth Jacobson and grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. She developed a passion for storytelling early in life. At times, she was more comfortable in her imagination than in the real world. The Palimar Saga had its first incarnation as a way for her and her mom to collaborate creatively and strengthen their relationship.
Jacobson, C. R.: - Carol Ruth Jacobson is a retired college English professor with 41 years of teaching experience. After decades of helping students write well and appreciate quality literature, she relishes time to immerse her expertise into her own story. She brings a technical eye to the writing table with her relentless attention-to-detail. While earning her MA in English from the University of North Dakota in the 80's, she met and married Kevin, an Air Force officer and a gentleman. They have 3 married children who have blessed them with 11 grandchildren. Their oldest child, daughter Kirsten Solberg, is her writing partner in The Palimar Saga. Since Carol grew up in northern Minnesota, she loves small towns, seasonal changes, and family traditions. After raising their children in Minnesota, she and her husband reside in south Florida near the Atlantic Ocean. Carol loves flower gardening, recipe experimenting, kombucha brewing, in-Christ walking, and grandchildren spoiling.
