Sending Balloons to Heaven follows the story of one young girl who has recently lost her grandmother and finds solace in a simple act that turns out to be the bridge to healing, expressing her emotions openly, and learning to celebrate the memories and honor her grandmother in the sweetest way.
This beautiful children's picture book with a much-needed message for children as they struggle with grief will spark a conversation, help children work through their emotions, and learn to move on in healthily in their own time.

'It's okay to be sad...whenever you miss her, we can send her balloons...'
Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2020Author Lindsey Luckey is a graduate student from Duke University and serves as a full time RN. She has published over twenty children's books to date - each well illustrated and entertaining as well as addressing the challenges children encounter - helping them to understand and cope with tough situations.
In this book Lindsey writes the story and the experience of reading is enhanced by the illustrations of Carlos Varejão as she opens this book: 'It's been a whole week since I last saw my Mimi. I miss her a lot but Mommy says that Mimi has grown angel wings and is flying in Heaven now! Mommy says that Heaven is a beautiful place and that we will all see Mimi again someday.' This dear opening begins a very fine story that explains to children about the loss of loved ones - especially elderly grandparents - and how honoring them in memory can become more understandable with such ideas as sending balloons into the sky.
This is a well-written little story that helps children understand the passing of family or friends and ways to deal with that loss. Lindsey proves her mettle with this excellent children's book.
