Spirituality Put in Its Place

Robert Bond

Something happens and "the way things should be" is upset. Next comes great effort to outdo the hurdle, interruption or sickness and get things back on track.

This book is about a missing piece.

Spirituality pays attention to the upsets. They are feedback: signposts to be heeded rather than end-run. This is true in medicine, psychology, religion, agriculture, engineering, ... every human undertaking.

Working from universal norms, the reader is led through meaning-finding and change-making, discovering spirituality in its rightful place.

About the Author

Bond, Robert: - Robert Bond began his professional life as an Honours Physics graduate of the University of Waterloo, working at Bell Northern Research, Ottawa. Pursuit of yet greater passion led to Master of Divinity studies, six years as a congregational pastor, and then 33 years of clinical practice, continued training, professional and inter-professional leadership in Spiritual & Religious Care at Niagara Health (a system of hospitals in Ontario's Niagara Peninsula). From 2010 through 2022, he was also an adjunct clinical professor at McMaster University's DeGroote School of Medicine. He retired at age 66 in early 2024.

Bob is an ordained minister within The Gathering of Baptists. He practiced as a Registered Psychotherapist (College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario) and a Specialist in Spiritual Care and Psychospiritual Therapy (Canadian Association for Spiritual Care / Association Canadienne de Soins Spirituels).

This book is Bob's integration of a lifetime of questioning and work, offered so that others may pick up and run with an effective (though largely missed!) understanding of spirituality and spiritual care.
