Swamp Phantom

Franklin Mir

It was late evening on a desolate, foggy, two-lane country road in the fall of 1979, Albert and his girlfriend, Wendy, cruised next to a well-known swamp on the outskirts of Lakeview. Albert prided himself on bravado and his disbelief in urban legends, however, the events of that evening opened his eyes. Albert's mother, Elaine, begged and warned him about traveling on that road past 10pm to avoid terrifying sights of the unexplainable. The local legends told the story of a phantom who "owned" the swamp and the road that ran beside it. This phantom would do anything to guard its home from uninvited visitors. Albert should've listened.
Two weeks later, Wendy was found alone-dehydrated with a hard to believe tale.
