The author was inspired to write this book after 9/11 when a plethora of one-dimensional news items appeared describing fanatic, gun-toting Afghans and faceless, brutalized women.The Afghan includes an insightful foreword and rare color photographs of Afghan men, women and children in a variety of settings that complement the text. By learning something about the strengths and shortcomings of Afghan culture, we may also learn something about ourselves.
