
In the waning decades of the 20th century and the first decade of the 21st century, airpower has proven a highly effective military force that politicians often employ as their first military instrument of power to pursue our countries political goals. After suffering through nearly a full century of not living up to expectations, airpower has finally matured into what early advocates predicted, a devastatingly effective arm of military service. The final realization of success was brought about by a combination of force structure, organization, training, and technology that facilitated coalition success in Operations Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom.
