The Blue Goose and Me

Joe D. White Sr

The "Blue Goose and Me" follows the early career of Joe D. White with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Wildlife Refuge System. Joe began his career with the National Wildlife Refuge System in 1961 as the assistant manager on Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge on the central gulf coast of Florida where for two years he was introduced to the science and art of habitat and wildlife management, work that produced incredible experiences that accrue to working with wildlife populations and individuals. The next seven years saw him continue to hone his wildlife management skills as assistant manager on Reelfoot Refuge in northwest Tennessee, White River Refuge in east central Arkansas, and Wapanocca Refuge in northeast Arkansas. As an assistant manager on these wildlands and wildlife havens, most of his duties were performed outdoors, a fortunate circumstance that provided him the opportunity to participate in wildlife/nature adventures that the average citizen would find hard to believe.
