A collection of personal poems, many of which were put on paper in between other responsibilities. They record journeys not only geographical but inward and Pat seems to test dimension as she goes the distance. Until a surprising change in tone in direction leaves us at a place the measure of which is not yet taken.
Patricia Hoad has lived for many decades away from her island home, but her voice remains essentially that of a Caribbean woman. Her poetry is a welcome addition to the growing body of Caribbean literature. Through strong, vivid metaphor, she dares to share deep human experience of leaving and loss but also of creativity and joy. Her work is sensitively crafted with such care that only the essential appears on the page.
