James Edwards believes God is in the business of interrupting lives and changing them forever. He shows how the stories of eight biblical characters are paradigms for the ways God intrudes in our lives today, leading us to do His will and become the people He wants us to be. Through creatively told Bible stories and intriguing anecdotes of personal experiences, Edwards creates an interplay between the historical and the contemporary that allows you to discover God afresh. You'll observe how God interrupts people's lives in times of disillusionment, inadequacy, grief, and even opposition. As you join these conversations, you'll understand God's character in a new, intimate way. And, you may see clues to God's interruptions in your own life.

About the Author
Edwards, James R.: - From a Swiss village to the jungles of Colombia and the former East Germany, James R. Edwards has encountered the Divine Intruder around the world. In addition to authoring several commentaries and many scholarly articles on the New Testament, Edwards, who is Bruner-Welch Professor Emeritus of Theology at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington, has authored Is Jesus the Only Savior? (Eerdmans, 2006). Praise for this book
""Dr. Edwards has offered us what we most need and most resist--a terrifying meeting with God. As a biblical scholar, he provides fresh insights into the classic confrontations of creatures with their Creator."" --Craig Barnes, President Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, NJ ""I am deeply engaged and moved by The Divine Intruder. The writing has a certain classic quality about it. The 'breakthroughs' of God into our lives that James Edwards explores are crucial to the formation of the human spirit in godliness.""--Dallas Willard, former professor of philosophy at the University of Southern California and author of The Spirit of the Disciplines and The Divine Conspiracy ""I know of no wiser contemporary teacher of the doctrine of God than Jim Edwards. This book's studies of the great biblical meetings with God instructs us in how this God encounters us curious human beings.""--F. Dale Bruner, professor of religion emeritus, Whitworth College, author of Matthew: A Commentary ""A remarkable tribute to the sovereignty of God's grace and dependability on God's promises.""--Donald G. Bloesch, professor of theology emeritus, Dubuque Theological Seminary, author of The Struggle of Prayer and A Theology of Word and Spirit
