The Last Line

Anthony Shaffer

THE DRUG WAR is about to become A REAL WAR.

Chris Teller may be the best in the intelligence business, but that doesn't mean he's the most popular. Far from it, in fact. While he may be a threat to the status quo, however, the only thing saving him from expulsion is an even greater threat to his country, one that's already within our borders.

With Mexico descending into anarchy, the drug cartels have kicked up the heat, allying with Hezbollah and the Iranian secret service in a plot aimed at nothing less than the destruction of the United States of America. As Teller races to unravel the plot, he discovers that the most dangerous and pernicious enemies are not bloodthirsty drug lords, but a terrifying and treasonous cabal within the U.S. government itself.

Former military intelligence officer Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer made headlines when his memoir, Operation Dark Heart, faced Department of Defense censorship. Now he returns with The Last Line, an eye-opening thriller rooted in the shadow world of espionage, government power, and betrayal.

Praise for this book

"Shaffer combines more than 25 years of experience in the intelligence community with a background in the military, and the authenticity shows in his first novel, written with the prolific genre-veteran Keith. . . Shaffer and Keith have added another must-follow hero for fans of covert-ops thrillers by Dalton Fury, Vince Flynn, and Brad Taylor. Teller can be a bit of a callous jerk at times, but what he lacks in subtlety, he more than makes up for in a kind of Jack Reacher instinct for taking the right action at the right time." --Booklist

"Chillingly authentic...a riveting tale only a true insider could tell...cunningly plotted and richly detailed with off-the-books tradecraft, this will be the go-to novel for intelligence professionals and special operators: a noteworthy debut!" --Ralph Peters, Fox News strategic analyst and author of Cain at Gettysburg

"Captain Chris Teller is a skilled and experienced intelligence professional who doesn't always follow the rules. But he may be our best chance of stopping a bunch of bad guys so vicious they make Al Qaeda look good. Shaffer is a professional who understands how the military and intelligence agencies work--and sometimes don't work. What they do and how they do it is an important part of this great story." --Larry Bond, New York Times bestselling author
