The Last of The Heroes

Paul Fitzsimmons

After losing his daughter, home and business to a bitter divorce, ostracised by siblings, redundancy and forced to break off a long unrequited relationship and finally suffering a breakdown, the author writes of how his world was still to get a whole lot worse!

The author celebrates the life and the support he received from his father during these difficult times but also reflects on the huge sacrifices his Pops made during his lifetime, to his wife and family. He writes of a role that once stood proud, affirming, that fathers should be revered even more.

Suffering depression whilst supporting his mother and learning to cope with his father's dementia, the author observes how this cruel disease forced his Pops into care during Covid, making him unseen for nearly a year. He then loses his beloved mother and consequently, loses his and his parents' home.

Woven within the story, the author speaks of genuine love and fidelity of a previous generation, who's love stories and relationships helped shape a better Britain, where its characters never once broke a vow.
