Catriona is a high-powered lawyer with a steady job who hasn't spoken to her mother, Laura, in
years. Upon turning 40, she decides to conquer her fear of flying by becoming a pilot. Laura has
moved back to Scotland, the country of her birth, and realizes that in her older age, she has
alienated the daughter she wanted only to love. With the help of flights, postcards, and stories
written in letters, through memories and sharp-edged conversations, mother and daughter
grapple with loss, separation, distrust, and hatred to find their way back to some kind of parallel
understanding and a recognition of the unbreakable bond that has kept them both together and
apart for years. With her blunt, gorgeous writing style and characters that seem to jump right off
the page, Blackie (Hagitude, 2022) has written a stunning, meaningful novel that will leave the
reader forever changed by the time they reach the book's beautifully crafted, inevitable ending.
The Long Delirious Burning Blue is an absolute keeper.
