Rivera Athletics Hall of Fame -First CIAA Football Champions 1953 -North Carolina Central University -NCCU Induction Class of 1984 As a writer and a public speaker Alvin twice has participated in the award-winning Book 'Em North Carolina Annual Writers Conference and Book Fair ("Buy a Book and Stop a Crook") at Robeson Community College in Robeson, N.C., as a featured author and featured panel member on "Overcoming Obstacles." Having overcome many obstacles, including post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD, Mr. Bess has become a creative writer, public speaker, role model, veteran regional planner, and a well-adjusted and highly accomplished black male. His current works include a true-crime based multipart fictional series in the final stages of production scheduled for release in fall 2017. As a role model Alvin Bess served as a Boys & Girls Clubs of America Passport to Manhood Program Leader where he earned the BGCA Volunteer of the Year award.
