@StartlinglyOkay I only know Wolfram as having a reputation for being a crank. From the brief description, though, there is serious work along these lines, e.g. that of Stuart Kauffman (The Origins of Order for example)
Scientist at Tufts University; my lab studies anatomical and behavioral decision-making at multiple scales of biological, artificial, and hybrid systems.
At Home in the Universe by Stuart A. Kauffman The Origins of Order by Stuart A. Kauffman An Introduction to the Study of Experimental Medicine by Claude Bernard The Touchstone of Life by Werner R. Loewenstein Behavior and Evolution by Jean Piaget

@whaleperson Many things from Santa Fe Institute are great. Eg _Worlds Hidden in Plain Sight_ and _Complexity Economics_. Stuart Kauffman has many interesting books as well, including _The Origins of Order_. There’s also Adrian Bejan and his “Constructal Law”, and Terence Deacon’s Voids.
