I am very positive about The Prostate Cancer Owner's Manual because patients need to know what may lie ahead for them, and this book spells that out. Mr. Miles and Dr. Haynes don't mince words. They see the problems and decisions patients face. They tell it as it is. They say what they believe based on their research and personal experiences. The book says what patients need to hear; it is relevant, important and straight-forward. This will be a good read for all patients, and people close to them.

Dr. Haynes and Mr. Miles perform a great service for readers of The Prostate Cancer Owner's Manual when they draw attention to the fact that palliative care is not just about death and dying, but that it is about comprehensive symptom management in treating prostate cancer. I also appreciate their acknowledging the importance of the mind/body/spirit connection... and their focus on intimacy and communications. For the majority of men, the prostate cancer experience is often transformative. Patients and partners can discover that 'having sex' is a flexible experience, not just a narrow focus on penile/penetrative intercourse. It is great to be happy with intimacy!
