The Wet Walkers: Volume II

Mary Smith

Finally we found the stack of carefully placed rocks and we had our sign... the wet walkers had been here! We exchanged looks and Raff gently guided our mule and enormous wagon off the trail on to a faintly used path that led down a gentle slope into a breathtaking wooded area. The path turned sharply... and there it was just in time as evening shadows slowly turned into darkness. It was a dwelling, dark, desolate, seemingly deserted. Bits and pieces of a broken fence scattered as if by the wind lay over the pitiful overgrown yard. We were filled with questions to which there seemed no answers. Would it give up its secrets? Raff climbed from the wagon, took my hand and together we walked to the cold closed door.

About the Author

Smith, Mary: - Mary Smith started her life in Kansas City Missouri, on July 12 1930. It was the beginning of the great depression. Her young mother Mary, 25 years old died in child birth. Two of her siblings promised her that the little girl would be loved, cared for and given any and every opportunity available. Their word was gold. They took her to their homes in 'Tornado Alley', between Texhoma Texas and Liberal Kansas, on the Oklahoma Panhandle. It was the Dustbowl. Bleak, terrifying, and a killing field. My life has been full of love, remarkable living examples and the world (in that time period) was my oyster! My imagination and talents were encouraged and trained. So, my life's quilt, like Joseph's coat, is beautiful. It consists of the many colors and fabrics of this world from the most humble to the finest. I have been greatly blessed and want to share with each of you, the wonder of true goodness. Though my characters are fictional, I know and love every one of them. They are us-at our worst and at our best. Walk with me-and the Wet Walkers. Mary Smith lives in Santa Fe New Mexico with her two beloved Puli dogs. They are precious souls who, with their dredlocks, look mixed up... But don't we all?
