Through a Glass Darkley

Michael Fleischacker

In "Through a Glass Darkly" the author lets the poetry of the mysterious Persephone tell the tale of three High School students who are caught up in a love triangle. Sebestian, who is love with Randolyn, is unsure of how to court her. So he enlists the services of their mutual friend, the sorceress Persephone. Persephone is sympathetic to Sebestian's plight and so she devises a way for him to win Randolyn's affection. She composes a series of poems for Sebestian to present to Randolyn as if he had written them himself. However, in the process of creating these poems, Persephone discovers that she too has fallen in love with Randolyn. Taken from the pages of Persephone's diary, "Through a Glass Darkly", chronicles the emotional ups and downs of her tragic one-sided love affair with Randolyn. In this contemporary interpretation of the classic "Cyrano de Bergerac", the author, through the poetry of Persephone, demonstrates the difficulty of separating fantasy from reality when dealing with matters of the heart.
