U.S. Marine Vietnam Sacrifice

Crystal Mary Lindsey

"By this, we know love because He (Jesus) laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren" John 3:16.

This story revolves around a young country boy named Raymond, who grew up in a small rural town in Tennessee.

Ray is a patriot and has always dreamed of serving his country.

In 1968 he was conscripted and joined the Marines to go and fight in Vietnam.

At first, he is excited to go, but soon he experiences war horrors.

He witnesses death and destruction daily and is forced to participate in brutal combats that leave him emotionally scarred.

As Ray's tour of duty progresses, he begins to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

He struggles with flashbacks, nightmares, and anxiety and finds it difficult to adjust to civilian life when he returns home. Ray's PTSD affects every aspect of his life, and he has trouble sleeping and maintaining relationships.

He becomes withdrawn and isolated, using alcohol and medical drugs to cope with his emotions and pain.

Knowing God loves him is his life jacket.

The story of Ray is a beautiful reminder of the sacrifices that men and women make when they go to war, and it is also a testament to faith's strengths for those who struggle with mental health issues.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6.

This is a story about a loving man whose life changed forever because of his service during the Vietnam War. It is a heartbreaking story of the life of Raymond. From his youth to the end of his life, he was plagued with ghosts from his youth and the war.

The author's writing style brought his story to life and touched my heart. It portrays Raymond's sacrifice for his country and also the strength of his wife in spite of the circumstances.

The story gives the reader an inside look into PTSD and mental illness that will help others understand the problems our vets struggle with. A well-rounded story filled with faith during a time of struggle. Highly recommended.

An Excellent & Honest PTSD War-Related Trauma Impact Read

I only enjoy reading true life (non-fiction) books, and because I personally know both the author and this book's hero, I can confirm this factual and informative read is a TRUE account.

Very well written and concise - PTSD war-related trauma is VERY REAL and it leaves a trail of damage long after the war has ended, both for the survivor and their loved ones. It was a blessing for this heroic survivor to have had such a caring and experienced nursing wife in his life.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys true stories and those desiring to better understand war participation and its close affiliate: trauma...it should NEVER be!!
