Ye Worship Ye Know Not What

G. L. Parks

Certainly most of the religions of the world do not know what they worship or should be worshiping. "Ye worship ye know not what", are words that Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman at the well. The Samaritans were mixed descendants of the twelve tribes of Israel yet they thought they were worshiping the same God of the Jews, only in a different location. They were worshiping on a mountain and the Jews were worshiping in the temple in Jerusalem. There is a significant reason why the God of the Samaritans was different than the God of the Jews. They were both worshiping the same God during the days of Moses. What had happened to the Samaritan's understanding of God during the years that had transpired between Moses and the time when Jesus encountered the Samaritan woman at the well? Could the words of Jesus to her, "Ye worship ye know not what", apply to contemporary Christians? G.L. Parks believes that the words of Jesus do apply. He succinctly shows that "mountains" in the Bible represent people who have exalted themselves, their beliefs and their doctrines above the present revelation of God. The Samaritans worshiped only in the "mountain" or past understanding of God through the writings of Moses. The Jews ascribed not only to Moses, but the subsequent prophets after Moses. They had a present revelation of what God was. Are most contemporary Christians worshiping only in the "mountain" experience of their fathers? In this book G.L. Parks shows that they are.
