You Wouldn't Believe Me If I Told You: An Unforgettable Memoir of Golf, Grit, and a Blue-Collar Kid on the PGA Tour

Jay Delsing

Imagine growing up in a blue-collar family, with a dad who played Major League Baseball and a childhood where golf was as foreign as a trip to the moon. Jay Delsing, a natural athlete with an unyielding passion for the game, shares his incredible journey from humble beginnings to a twenty-five-year career on the PGA TOUR in You Wouldn't Believe Me If I Told You.

This is not your typical golf memoir. Delsing's unique perspective as a blue-collar kid navigating the white-collar world of professional golf brings a refreshing authenticity to his stories. From locker room banter with Tiger Woods to flying on Air Nicklaus, Delsing pulls back the curtain on life on Tour.

But it's not just about golf. Delsing weaves in tales of his days at UCLA with Steve Pate and Corey Pavin, living in a mansion once owned by Lana Turner, and the unforgettable moment Sean Connery introduced him to Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. He even recounts the surreal experience of Stephen Stills on a golf course, offering him cocaine before serenading him with a choice of "Southern Cross" or "Love the One You're With."

Filled with humor, heart, and a healthy dose of name-dropping, You Wouldn't Believe Me If I Told You is a must-read for anyone who loves sports, golf, or behind-the-scenes glimpses into the lives of celebrities. Whether you're a lifelong fan of the game or simply appreciate an underdog story, Delsing's memoir will leave you captivated from the first tee to the final green.

About the Author

Delsing, Jay: -

Growing up the son of a Major League Baseball player in the heart of America, Jay Delsing discovered his true calling on the fairways rather than the baseball diamond. Introduced to the game as a young teenager caddying at Norwood Hills Country Club, Delsing quickly developed a passion for golf that would shape his life's trajectory.
His talent and dedication earned him a scholarship to UCLA, where he became a standout on one of the most celebrated college golf teams in history. A three-time All Pac-10 and two-time All-American selection, Delsing's collegiate career set the stage for his remarkable professional journey.

Over the course of his twenty-five-year PGA TOUR career, Delsing achieved numerous milestones, including seven professional wins and an impressive thirty top-10 finishes. His skill and sportsmanship earned him the opportunity to play alongside some of the most notable figures of his time, from United States Presidents Gerald Ford and George H. W. Bush to Hollywood icon Sean Connery and music legends Stephen Stills and Vince Gill.

Delsing's achievements extend beyond tournament victories. He holds several course and tournament records across the United States, including a course record-setting -10, 61 during the fourth round of the 1993 FedEx St. Jude Classic. His name is etched in UCLA's golf history, ranking third all-time with seven tournament wins.

Today, Delsing continues to share his love of the game through his popular radio show and podcast, Golf with Jay Delsing. His engaging storytelling and insightful commentary make him a beloved figure in the golfing community, inspiring both seasoned players and aspiring athletes alike. Whether sharing anecdotes from his time on Tour or analyzing the latest developments in the sport, Delsing's passion for golf remains as strong as ever.

Praise for this book

"There are many takeaways from Jay's memoir. Here's one: His Arnold Palmer story is much funnier and much classier than Donald Trump's."

--Bob Costas, winner of twenty-nine Emmy awards and the Ford C. Frick award

"I have never met a professional athlete with Jay's life experiences and background who is willing to share them in such a fun and energetic way as in this book. He cares about the game of golf, but most importantly, he cares about the people in and around this great game. This book shares his amazing career and life experiences in a manner that makes you realize how much he's done in his life--and what a life it has been!"

--Dan McLaughlin, four-time Emmy award-winning sports broadcaster

"Jay had, at first impression, a big smile, was genuinely happy to meet you, and was interested in learning more no matter if you were Arnold Palmer or a fledgling rookie.

We played many practice rounds together, both under the tutelage of the great Bob Rotella, always talking about staying athletic and instinctive. Jay had a great knack for recalling his rounds with such detail and humor that there was rarely an empty seat next to him in the locker room after play. What he does in You Wouldn't Believe Me If I Told You is take you back in time to a highlight reel of stories from the PGA TOUR that are really hard to believe. It was nice to be inside the ropes with Jay for so many years on the Tour."

--Brad Faxon, eight-time winner on the PGA TOUR, golf analyst for NBC Sports and The Golf Channel, fellow father of four daughters

"It is often said that one of the best things about the game of golf is the people you meet along the way, and one of the best people that I've met in this game, going back some forty years now, is Jay Delsing. Always a big smile, a big laugh, a big heart, and a booming voice have made him one of the most popular figures in this game and no doubt helped to fill his life with wonderful friendships and stories that he has shared with us here. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I've enjoyed my friendship with Jay."

--Brandel Chamblee, American professional golfer

"Growing up reading and looking at the newspaper every Thursday to Sunday to follow my uncle's every move on the PGA TOUR was awesome and motivating. However, it's even more impactful now to read the behind-the-scenes stories that just illuminate his career even more."

--Taylor Twellman, 2005 MLS MVP, lead MLS analyst for Apple TV
