The 2024 PEN/Faulkner Award

Claire Jiménez has won one of the most prestigious prizes in the literary world, the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction, for her comic novel "What Happened to Ruthy Ramirez." Other finalists included Alice McDermott's novel set on the margins of the Vietnam War and Jamel Brinkley's widely acclaimed story collection. This year’s judges—Xochitl Gonzalez, Alan Michael Parker, and Lynn Steger Strong—selected the longlist and finalists from among 445 novels and story collections by American authors published in the US during the 2023 calendar year.
