Top Fantasy Series to Read After Finishing Harry Potter According to a 9-Year-Old

Harry Potter Paperback Boxed Set: Books 1-7

I started reading Harry Potter in First Grade, but I'd recommend starting later like 2nd or 3rd grade so that you'll understand it better. Oh, and definitely read the series before seeing the movies, which don't completely follow the books.

I love how mysterious and captivating it is -- you'll definitely want to read all three books.

The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell: 10th Anniversary Illustrated Edition

This is one of my all-time favorites. It's about twins from a magical family who journey to a fairy tale land and end up having to save the world from a terrible fate. The best thing about this book is the way the author makes unexpected twists and connections between the fairy tales that you know so well. Every book is a new adventure so you'll want to read all 6.

A Tale of Magic... Paperback Boxed Set

This is the prequel series to Land of Stories. It tells the story of how the magical fairy tale world was created, including characters like the fairy godmother and her crew of fairies. The three books are dedicated to magic, witchcraft and sorcery. It was such a relief when I finished the Land of Stories that I got to read three more books that were just as good. You'll want to, too.

Sophie Foster, the main character in this series, hit her head when she was five, which caused her to become telepathic. On a field trip, she meets a boy who takes her to a magical world where she finally feels at home. As it turns out, the Lost Cities have more challenges than she was prepared for. It's an amazing series--one of my favorites--and I can't wait for the next book to come out!

In order to save the world, the kids join them to fight beasts, mythical creatures and evil bands of people who are trying to take control. It's filled with action and is very creative. Five stars for this series!
