Top Fantasy Series to Read After Finishing Harry Potter According to a 9-Year-Old

I started reading Harry Potter in First Grade, but I'd recommend starting later like 2nd or 3rd grade so that you'll understand it better. Oh, and definitely read the series before seeing the movies, which don't completely follow the books.

This series is about Morrigan Crow, a girl who is cursed for being born on Eventide, an unlucky day to be born. When she arrives at the secret city of Nevermoor, she struggles to find acceptance and find her own magical powers. I love how mysterious and captivating it is -- you'll definitely want to read all three books.

This is one of my all-time favorites. It's about twins from a magical family who journey to a fairy tale land and end up having to save the world from a terrible fate. The best thing about this book is the way the author makes unexpected twists and connections between the fairy tales that you know so well. Every book is a new adventure so you'll want to read all 6.

This is the prequel series to Land of Stories. It tells the story of how the magical fairy tale world was created, including characters like the fairy godmother and her crew of fairies. The three books are dedicated to magic, witchcraft and sorcery. It was such a relief when I finished the Land of Stories that I got to read three more books that were just as good. You'll want to, too.

Sophie Foster, the main character in this series, hit her head when she was five, which caused her to become telepathic. On a field trip, she meets a boy who takes her to a magical world where she finally feels at home. As it turns out, the Lost Cities have more challenges than she was prepared for. It's an amazing series--one of my favorites--and I can't wait for the next book to come out!

In Fablehaven, a sister and a brother visit their aunt and uncle and discover an animal sanctuary filled with magical creatures. It turns out that their aunt and uncle are caretakers of this special haven. In order to save the world, the kids join them to fight beasts, mythical creatures and evil bands of people who are trying to take control. It's filled with action and is very creative. Five stars for this series!

This is the sequel series to Fablehaven for readers who couldn't get enough of the first five books! It may be even better, but you'll have to find out for yourself. Make sure to read Fablehaven first.

Best friends with totally different personalities end up being dragged into the legendary school for good and evil, where kids train to become fairy tale villains and heroes. One girl seems good and the other evil, but they end up finding their futures reversed when they enter the school. They have to live through their own fairy tale and face a lot of challenges along the way. It's so funny I almost laughed aloud. You won't be able to resist reading all six books!
