My Favorite Fiction Set in Maine
All year, during the gray days and everyday stresses of the off-season, I wait for the moment when I return to Maine. As I drive across the bridge, breathing in the smell of pine, the shift from one state to another feels literal and symbolic. A weight lifts, the air lightens; memories stir. Maine is home to the rural town my grandmother grew up in, the woodsy island where I spent many summers writing and now visit with my husband and son. It’s the setting of my new novel, "Reunion," and some of my favorite books of fiction. Some describe summer getaways; others are set in small towns, rural farms, remote islands. All make for captivating reads.
