STACKED: What’s on Tommy Dorfman's Shelf

My dad gave me this book a decade ago, and he was absolutely right to do it. It ended up being one of my favorite books.

My recent sort of trashy binge read was Sunrise on the Reaping. I’m waiting for my niece to visit so I can hand it off to her—I feel like she’s going to love it.

As I Lay Dying is one of my favorite books. I grew up in the South, and I love Southern literature. I think Faulkner is one of the most incredible prose writers of all time.

I really love Aesthetica—I’ve been rereading it recently. It feels especially timely right now, with the state of social media and AI. Highly, highly recommend.

One of my daily go-to books is 78 Degrees of Wisdom, a tarot journey to self-awareness by Rachel Pollack. I pull tarot cards most days, and then I check in with this book to see what wisdom I can glean. It’s a foundational text for me.

I’m directing the adaptation this year, which I’m really excited about.

I’ve experienced a lot of grief in my life. If you have too, I highly recommend Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking. I know it’s a “basic” rec at this point, but if you haven’t read it—truly, you should.
