in certain kids' books they envision sadness as a place (the doldrums, a cloudy changeless land in the phantom tollbooth; the sea of screams and the mountain of malice in jules feiffer's a barrel of laughs a vale of tears) and i just think that's neat and useful. mine's a swamp

I am truly enjoying "The Vanquished: Why the First World War Failed to End," by Robert Gewarth. It's insightful and lively and fascinating.
