@vuddha1 @jshelat1 Jean Toomer’s Cane is a new fave of mine. So gorgeously written and tragic and the formal play is wild. It’s never any one genre; even the poems are more like songs (though they’re not quite songs). Would love to know what you think!

@SimonDuring Yep, though the contents can freeze into place ideas of good writing that then become normative. Raymond Williams argues this in a few places. I think being persuaded by the argument might mean changing how we do things. That’s what it meant for Williams (e.g. in Modern Tragedy)
