@HPS_Vanessa An anecdote: December 2021 I was in the US for Christmas. My friend has been immunocompromised but felt relatively safe bc her city has been good re masking. At one place, they got nervous about lax masking, but to me, I had never once in the pandemic been around so many masks.

@hammock_tussock Andrea Levy is peerless. Both Small Island and The Long Song work well. I never got around to doing this, and it’s not historical fiction, but I was mulling over assigning The Fifth Season in a disasters module.

The traditions that ignored CLR James, wrote books about revolution that barely mention the Haitian Rev, made laughing at Eric Williams an intellectual rite of passage, and “discovered” Black British history 5 yrs ago don’t have much to offer the tradition of John Hope Franklin.
