Leave the World Behind
Rumaan Alam
Just finished LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND by @Rumaan. A beautifully written and utterly fascinating novel that rejects any easy categorization. It's sort of a thriller, but it's also a really compelling meditation on how humans behave when we realize we're not in control. Great book.

Apostles of Disunion: Southern Secession Commissioners and the Causes of the Civil War (Anniversary)
Charles B. Dew
Some excellent book recommendations on the relationship between slavery and the Confederacy from @KevinLevin. Charles Dew’s “Apostles of Disunion” was especially instructive for me when I first read it. https://t.co/32MfQkcRQ0

Exit West
Mohsin Hamid
Mohsin Hamid is one of my favorite writers. EXIT WEST is one of the best novels I've ever read. I recently finished his new novel THE LAST WHITE MAN and I have such admiration for how inventive and imaginative a writer he is. All of his books are so different, and so satisfying.

The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder
David Grann
Just finished THE WAGER by @DavidGrann. It was my first book of his but definitely won’t be my last. The sort of nonfiction book you finish and can’t believe it wasn’t actually a novel. The details are so rich and the narrative was so immersive. What a wild, incredible story.

Martyr!
Kaveh Akbar
This book is unlike anything I’ve ever read and is unquestionably one of the best novels I’ve ever had the pleasure of spending time with... at once beautifully written and narratively gripping. I told the crowd last night that it’s like Walt Whitman meets John Grisham.

The Namesake
Jhumpa Lahiri
Recently reread Jhumpa Lahiri's The Namesake for the first time in many years and enjoyed it even more now than I did the first time. Few writers capture the interior lives of their character's as well as Lahiri does. The tension and their sense of longing spill off every page.
