Doctor Mist is actually a very minor character mentioned in the 1923 novel "Wisdom's Daughter" by H. Rider Haggard, author of many pulp-ish adventure yarns. Bridwell simply liked this minor detail so much he made a character out of him for DC. https://t.co/xmo62q9B4F

@Elpico72 I don't think Stan wanted the Conan license either, honestly. Roy was the one working his ass off in the 70s to get Marvel stuff like Conan and Star Wars. And yeah the Tolkien estate are extremely anti-comic. I own both of the official Tolkien-based comics that ever came out.

And they kept it in place for like 20 years after, wasn't revoked until the debut of the new Supergirl in Superman/batman by Loeb and Turner. And then you had Byrne's Krypton retconned
