@chris_francis23 Forthcoming from CUP is the first book about Beckett's (under-rated) poetry since 1970: https://t.co/LkaFxcVecQ. Of the biographies Knowlson's is the best, I think. Ackerley's 'Obscure Locks, Simple Keys : The Annotated Watt' is as illuminating as 'Demented Particulars.'

@S_J_Carey Yes, of course. But the actual sentence in full reads: 'You don’t even need to be interested in James Joyce or Ulysses to enjoy Collard's Jonathan Meades-level brilliance as a cultural critic.' and I can't find it within myself to disagree with that view.

@tds153 @vgreig007 @mskatestafford I'd refer you to the remarkable novel 'In Hazard' by Richard Hughes (of 'A High Wind in Jamaica' fame) in which the author offers a plausible use of 'baited' for 'bated' in an apocryphal tale of a cheese-eating cat who exhales on mouse holes to lure its prey.

@OGWBeard Both good - as are the others you mention. 'Dedalus' by Chris McCabe is astonishingly brilliant, and 'A Bash in the Tunnel' a marvellous anthology of Irish authors on Joyce. The title piece (by Flann O'Brien) is one of the funniest things he ever wrote.
