It’s just the most startlingly beautiful book. And it’s the book that I’m personally always kind of aiming toward as a writer, in terms of prose style and structure.

It’s got a really interesting structure. It’s essentially two novellas. There’s only a very slight overlap, but they’re concerned with the same themes around immigration and xenophobia. And it’s just really kind of harrowing and beautifully written. I really loved it.

My favourite book to give as a gift these days is Piranesi ... At first it's entirely baffling and inexplicable ... but the pieces snap into place in such an elegant and satisfying way, and when I read it I was left awestruck by its beauty and originality.

@TheLincoln Yeah, if I were in this predicament I'd write a second novella that was somehow linked to the first and then put them together and call it a novel. Ali Smith's How To Be Both and Michelle de Kretser's Scary Monsters are both fantastic examples of this form.
