@ilchinealach Tony Cliff wrote a biography called 'A World to Win'. Jim Higgins wrote an account of the early years of IS called ' More Years for the Locust'. I think Martin Shaw wrote an account for Socialist Register in the late 1970s. Ian Birchall wrote a massive biography of Cliff.

Martin Amis was indirectly influential in my area of research. In 2002, while I was living in the UK, his Koba the Dread book came out. This led to debates in the media as to why anyone remained in the CPGB after 1956. Reading Hobsbawm at the same time, I was intrigued!

@EquusontheBuses @IanCobain I think that the ‘smash the reds’ rhetoric/activities of the BUF from its early days signposted which side of the divide that it was on. Did the ex-ILPers not primarily come to BUF via the New Party? I always go back to David Renton on this question of right/left fascism.
