@cassmannes If you haven't listened to Leigh Stein's SELF-CARE yet, that was my favorite fiction book I read last year! Closely followed by Calvin Kasulke's SEVERAL PEOPLE ARE TYPING

@ambernoelle So true. Have you ever read Kate Manne's excellent book DOWN GIRL: THE LOGIC OF MISOGYNY? It's about how misogyny is a designed to enforce "correct woman" behavior (i.e. doting, being a human giver instead of a human being etc.). I think you'd dig it & it applies to this idea

@EleanorMKM I had never thought about the fact that kids don't have a lot of rights in American society until I read Bell Hooks' FEMINISM IS FOR EVERYBODY but like damn does this really drive home how true that is. Kids can't protect themselves the way adults can, unless adults protect them.
