A Grief Observed
C. S. LewisFor those grieving loss of loved one, now or in past, CS Lewis book ‘A Grief Observed’ is best around. Not intellectual distancing exercise. An earthy description of how it feels. Interesting point - it was first published by Faber/Faber - and TS Eliot gave the green light.

The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went to War in 1914
Christopher Clark@Cernovich There were some good books that came out at the centennial in 1914. The one I typically recommend is Christopher Clark's book "The Sleepwalkers," which discusses how the various powers stumbled into war. Somewhat revisionist take on traditional "Germany did it" narrative.

Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle
Chris Hedges@annakhachiyan Read book called ‘Empire of Illusion’ by Chris Hedges, which had a chapter on porn describing in minute detail - in erudite prose - a film called ‘65 Guy Creampie.’ The contrast b/w prose and what he was describing was hilarious. He described something very like this image.
