Is there a greater Florida novel than Zora Neale Hurston's "Their Eyes Were Watching God"? An amazing book, 40 yrs ahead of its time. The Florida social and natural landscape (segregation, the Everglades, a hurricane) is powerfully rendered. Highly recommend Ruby Dee's audiobook.

@ahelmbolt There's a great book to be written about the women who hit the "Hippie Trail" (Istanbul to Nepal) in the 60s and 70s. And speaking of Keroauc, there's Tim Z. Hernandez's "Mañana Means Heaven," based on the his interviews with a woman Kerouac met on the road in California.
