@bradkelly In Peter Watts’s novel BLINDSIGHT, aliens (called scramblers) who have no consciousness attack Earth. Because their brains do not maintain consciousness, they’re more efficient (is the novel’s assumption). It’s scary and thought-provoking.

We lost a giant in the field. Greg Bear RIP. BLOOD MUSIC blew my mind, THE FORGE OF GOD devastated me and QUEEN OF ANGELS changed my perspective. One of my favourite SF writers. He will be greatly missed.
