Barbara Tuchman's biographical portraits of British PM Lord Salisbury & US Speaker of the House Thomas B. Reed in The Proud Tower are so brilliant. They rival her description of the funeral of Edward VII in The Guns of August. Quite a chapter on anarchists too. Love her writing.
