The opening harmonica on “All I Really Want” from Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill (1995) is transformational. It had a content warning, so I had to have “the talk” with my mom. But once I got a DiscMan (DiscWoman?), I no longer had to subject my family to full disc repeat.

Let me remind everyone what Sara Ahmed has to say about complaint processes. She explains that changing the process by which complaints are made does not necessarily address the system in which complaints arise and are addressed. This one of many ways institutions fail us.
