The City of Brass
S. A. ChakrabortyWith the semester over and summer approaching, I am in the mood for some fun, lighthearted reading. So, after finishing the exciting adventure novel "The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi," I'll be reading "The City of Brass" by the same author. https://t.co/kiIi4XmeRL https://t.co/ZE0lDa3TqJ

Lost in Math: How Beauty Leads Physics Astray
Sabine HossenfelderThe poll responses had me worried for a while, but in the end they converged on the right answer! Related to this, I suggest @skdh’s “Lost in Math: How Beauty Leads Physics Astray.” I don’t think I agree with most of her conclusions, but the book has lots of food for thought. https://t.co/kfkpOKIylA

Foundations of Mathematical Logic
Haskell B. CurryBill Howard just donated his math books to our faculty, and I was fortunate to obtain his well-used '63 copy of "Foundations of Mathematical Logic" by Haskell Curry. You might recognize these names from the Curry-Howard correspondence. I feel like I have a piece of math history! https://t.co/U7uLdA4lRa

Lying
Sam Harris@a_r_i_t @akheriaty I like the position articulated by Sam Harris, who argues that lying is only okay in cases where you've basically decided the person no longer deserves to be treated as an equal (I forget his exact phrasing). With the gunman, lying is justified b/c even using violence would be.

Computational Complexity
Sanjeev AroraI am teaching graduate computational complexity for the first time next semester. Are there books I should consider other than "Computational Complexity: A Modern Approach" by @prfsanjeevarora and @boazbaraktcs? (Their book is great. I just want to know what else is out there.)

Genius: The Life and Science of Richard Feynman
James Gleick@paulg @tommycollison Have you read James Gleick’s Genius? I liked it even more than Feynman’s own books (which are also great).
