A Furious Sky: The Five-Hundred-Year History of America's Hurricanes
Eric Jay Dolin
@bhillin0324 Some other ones I’d consider: “Hurricane Watch,” by Bob Sheets (good history of hurricanes) “A Furious Sky,” by Eric Jay Dolin (accessible history/meteorological account of hurricanes) “Rising Tide,” by John Barry talks about how the 1927 Mississippi flood impacted America.

Holding Back the River: The Struggle Against Nature on America's Waterways
Tyler J. Kelley
Next book up will be “Holding Back the River,” by Tyler J. Kelley. This is an obvious one for me. Should focus on the Mississippi, Ohio, and Missouri and the challenges they and their residents face. I’m a sucker for a good Mississippi River book. https://t.co/WqTtnjvpV8

Desert Notebooks: A Road Map for the End of Time
Ben Ehrenreich
Starting “Desert Notebooks” tonight. This is (as I understand) a travelogue slash desert ode slash musing on climate change and life and the chaos of the late 2010s by Ben Ehrenreich. As someone (ironically) drawn to desert landscapes, I’m looking forward to this. https://t.co/geSxZfzLWL

The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11
Lawrence Wright
After reading a bunch of 9/11 and Afghanistan books, I think if I pick three of them to get a sense of what, why, and what happened next: “The Only Plane in the Sky,” which everyone should read by @vermontgmg “The Looming Tower,” by Lawrence Wright “The Afghanistan Papers”

Evicted
Aman C. Nyota
All I can say is wow. @Isabelwilkerson’s “Caste” was one of those books that challenges you, your worldview, your experiences. This instantly makes my list of books every American should read (along with “Evicted” and “Just Mercy.”) https://t.co/tHCf91VRUA

Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents
Isabel Wilkerson
Next up for me is “Caste,” by Isabel Wilkerson. Going to try to hurry up and finish this book before someone bans it in Texas. https://t.co/lviwRCqc6u

Thirty-Eight: The Hurricane That Transformed New England
Stephen Long
@bhillin0324 That last one is a bit denser, but if she likes history at all, it’s fascinating. “Thirty-Eight,” by Stephen Long is different. It talks about the 1938 New England hurricane in the context of forests and how you can see scars today. If she likes trees or nature 👍🏼.
