@smathewss I love how Garth Greenwell portrays Bulgaria and how Elizabeth Kostova captured Romania in The Historian and I recently really admired how Lucy Foley nailed the feeling of being a trashy but enthusiastic foreign person in Paris (I have been this person) in The Paris Apartment.

@blgtylr I think about the villains in Kiran Millwood Hargrave’s underrated The Mercies all the time. Include a gaggle of bitter 17th century Norwegian gossips and a hunky, evil Scottish minister/witch finder/governor named Absolom Cornet.
