Against Our Will: Men, Women, and Rape
Susan Brownmiller@Crouchback9 @IonaItalia @BIG_chikin The source is instructive. It was a throwaway line in Susan Brownmiller's Against Our Will (1975), a book that led to many improvements in society's treatment of rape. Brownmiller included it on a whim after one of her professors suggested it.

Stalin: Paradoxes of Power, 1878-1928
Stephen KotkinOne quibble. Cathy suggests Stalin wasn't a True Believer, but that's now the impression I got from Stephen Kotkin's epic bio (over 2,000 pages in two separate volumes that only cover up to 1941). If he wasn't a true believer, why so inefficiently collectivize agriculture?
