@TruckingWriter Mine are alchemy labs: John Winthrop Jr.'s lab & a holy man's lab in Morocco inspired by history. Winthrop was a colonial governor, a member of the Royal Society of London, and an alchemist. St. Vincent de Paul was captured by Barbary Pirates & sold to an alchemist in Morocco.

@jimdrew12724 My favorite was HG Wells, The Time Machine. But the one that haunted me for years was The Machine Stops by EM Forster. I could vividly recall scenes but not the title or author. I was 11 when I read it. Ironically, I finally found it and reread it in Feb. 2020. Chilling.
